Uninvited, Unapologetic: Taking Up Space Anyway
What does it mean to take up space in rooms that were never meant for you? In this powerful and intimate PowerTalk, Mimi Waterfall shares her journey of growing up in Antwerp with Congolese roots while being made to feel unwelcome: at school, in professional spaces, and beyond. From teachers who refused to teach her to workplace sabotage and daily aggressions, she learned early on what exclusion feels like. But she also learned something else: other people’s resistance is not a reflection of your worth.
Through creative entrepreneurship, Mimi found a safe space to nurture her talents and protect her vision. With her platform That Natural Thing and her artistic practice as Mimi Waterfall, she built her own table when no seat was offered.
This talk is an invitation to young women to trust their voice, believe in their vision, even if they are the only ones who see it—and take up space, unapologetically.
✨ About the speaker
Mimi Waterfall is an Afro-fusion artist whose music serves as both storytelling and healing. Her work is rooted in empowerment, sensuality, and the idea of the erotic as a source of power—drawing inspiration from Audre Lorde.
Through her platform That Natural Thing, she connects art and education, collaborating with cultural institutions such as Arenberg, Zomerfabriek, Ancienne Belgique, and De Studio. Her mission is simple yet powerful: to create spaces where people feel seen, heard, and empowered to be fully themselves.
